Julio's Restaurant
So I finally made it out for breakfast con John - El Guero. We've been trying to find some time to eat tacos since December. So we went to Julio's on Duval. I'm usually apprehensive about joints that aren't in good locations - at least for Mexicans that means east of IH-35 but I decided to try something new.
I had difficulty ordering since there wasn't much variety and the prices are a bit overpriced. They had breakfast tacos for $2.50 each which is way more than this Mexican is used to paying for a huevos con chorizo (well, you do get 3 ingredients) taco. The lack of variety didn't help the situation either. They had the run of the mill fajita tacos and carne guisada - I expect a good Mexican joint to have barbacoa or at least al pastor. So I did have a chorizo con huevo and one huevos a la mexicana taco (i had to special order that one). The flavors did deliver though - good spices, beans were nice and creamy and the salsa was spicy enough. They also had rotisery chicken behind the counter. Too bad about the prices and limited menu items - not worth another trip to Hyde Park for tacos.
